Here at the 1802 House, we are proud to announce that we have been awarded an Environmental Leader Certificate by the State of Maine! We are proud to support the concepts of eco-tourism and are developing new practices of green lodging. We are being very careful not to sacrifice style or the comfort of our guests in our commitment. Our aim is to blend exceptional hospitality with environmental preservation.
We have instituted several new initiatives to reduce our waste and to offset our carbon footprint. We have installed LED bulbs in the majority of our lighting and added a filtered water machine to the dining room to help reduce our plastic waste. For the same reason we no longer routinely provide toiletries to guests, they are always available if you need them. We recycle everything we can and in summer we try to grow some of our own fruit and vegetables. We even have a hybrid car for running errands.
This is just a small example of the things we have done to receive our award and we continue to make adjustments where we can. Please ask us for a complete list of our eco-friendly initiatives. We’re so excited to implement more policies that will impact the environment in a positive way- we’re just getting started! So if you’re looking for place to stay that’s friendly towards people and the planet, look no further. Book your stay with us, and we’ll put the kettle on for you.
